The park's warning is clearest for summer: tickets may sell out weeks ahead. Treat any summer date as one to book as soon as your plans are fixed. A night sailing, which runs Tuesday to Saturday, has fewer days on offer than a day sailing, so pick that date first if it matters to you. Fog is also common in summer, which affects what you pack rather than whether you can book.
Spring and autumn: check early, no fixed rule
Neither the park nor the operator gives a lead time for spring or autumn. Look at your dates as soon as you know them, and book when you find a sailing that suits, rather than waiting for a quieter-looking week. Holidays and school breaks may behave like summer, so check those the same way. Weather is unpredictable in these months, so a ticket with clear cancellation terms is worth a look.
Winter: closures matter more than crowds
The park says the island is open 362 days a year and closes on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. It also closes rarely for extreme weather, so a winter ticket should come with terms you can live with. The park says it rains in winter, so pack for it. Holidays behave like peak season
The park's sell-out warning names holidays as well as summer. Thanksgiving week and the Christmas and New Year stretch are the periods to book early. The island is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day themselves, so look at the days either side.
